1. Color of base oil
Different crude oil production areas and refining techniques can cause differences in the color of base oil. The color of the base oil itself is not a quality indicator, but usually, base oils that have been deeply refined through hydrogenation treatment will contain fewer impurities and their color will be relatively lighter.
Color of 2 additives
For the lubrication and protection needs of different equipment, such as gasoline engines, diesel engines, gearboxes, industrial hydraulic systems, etc., different additives should be added to different lubricating oils to achieve optimal lubrication and protection effects. For example, engine oil contains viscosity index improvers, antioxidants, cleaning dispersants, defoamers, rust inhibitors, anti-wear agents, emulsifiers, and so on. All these additives have their own different colors. When we constantly innovate or adjust additive formulations to maintain our technological advantage, it is reflected in the different changes in the color of lubricants, whether they are darker or lighter, which cannot be generalized.
3. Special dye colors
Perhaps most friends are not aware that sometimes a specific dye needs to be added to certain lubricants or greases to change their original color. The purpose of doing this is sometimes to distinguish between different product lines, as dyes do not provide any lubrication or protection.
Overall, it is not possible to determine the intrinsic quality changes of lubricating grease solely based on the deeper or lighter color changes.
